About Village Court Office

Office Overview

The Village Court Office, operating under the Provincial Social Services Office, implements and supports the Village Courts system across Madang Province. It provides administrative, operational, and capacity-building support to village magistrates and peace officers, ensuring access to restorative justice and customary land dispute resolution at the community level. The office liaises with the National Village Courts & Land Mediation Secretariat, coordinates magistrate appointments, oversees case management under the Village Courts Act 1989 and Land Dispute Settlement Act, and promotes legal awareness to strengthen community-based conflict resolution mechanisms.
