Insights on Good Governance

“Why Governments Get It Wrong – And How We Can Get It Right”, By Dennis C Grube

It offers powerful insights for anyone involved in public policy, leadership, or governance. Grube argues that governments rarely fail because of a lack of good intentions. They fail because we often misdiagnose the real problem, rely on oversimplified solutions, and design policies too far from the people who will actually live with the consequences.

What we resonated deeply with the idea and his call for governments to:

  • Understand problems properly before acting
  • Communicate honestly about what policies can and cannot achieve
  • Test solutions on a small scale before rolling them out
  • Work closely with citizens and Frontline workers
  • Focus on real outcomes, not just activities or announcements
  • Build the internal capacity needed for effective delivery

In today’s world–where public expectations are high and challenges are increasingly complex–these lessons are most important than ever. Good governance means being humble enough to listen, bold enough to innovate, and wise enough to course–correct when necessary.

As leaders, we strive for evidence–based, citizen–centred, and outcome–focused solutions that truly improve lives.

Grube’s book is a timely reminder that while governments can get it wrong, we also have the tools to get it right.
