Leading governance and service coordination for the remote and geographically diverse communities of Rai Coast District
Supporting cocoa and copra cash-crop production with emerging opportunities in cultural tourism
Focus: Sustainable livelihoods | Opportunities: Logging & cultural tourism
The Rai Coast District Administration Office leads governance and service coordination for the remote and geographically diverse communities of Rai Coast District. Spanning rugged coastal cliffs, fast-flowing rivers, and mountainous interiors, the district comprises four Local-Level Governments: Astrolabe Bay, Nankina-Yupna-Domung (NAYUDO), Nahu Rawa, and Saidor. The local economy hinges on subsistence agriculture, inland fishing, and cash-crop production (cocoa and copra), with emerging opportunities in logging and cultural tourism. The office partners with provincial departments, LLG councils, and community leaders to deliver essential services, promote sustainable livelihoods, and ensure inclusive participation in district planning.

Supporting diverse economic activities while exploring emerging opportunities for sustainable growth
The local economy hinges on subsistence agriculture, inland fishing, and cash-crop production including cocoa and copra. These traditional activities form the foundation of community livelihoods and food security across the district's diverse geographic areas.
Beyond traditional activities, the district is exploring emerging opportunities in logging and cultural tourism. These new economic avenues have the potential to create sustainable livelihoods while preserving the unique cultural and natural heritage of the Rai Coast.
